Army Wizard
Your own army from your own images. Visuals only: a pack can never touch the rules.
What it is #
A tool inside the game, on PC, that builds a faction skin from pictures you supply. A finished pack shows up next to the six built-in colours in every mode, in the squad's colour on the HUD and the minimap, and in the operation's vehicles. It changes nothing about how the pieces move or fight.
Open it from Settings → Army Wizard, or launch the game with --army-wizard to go straight to the tool.
What a pack is #
- One sheet per class (king, queen, rook, bishop, knight, pawn): 4 facings × 5 poses of square cells, 96 px as shipped. The poses are standby, melee, empty, aiming and brace.
- An optional four-cell captured strip for the king.
- A base colour, a choice of which built-in palette lends the APC, jeep and helicopter, and a name, author and version.
- Any class you never draw uses the stock figure, so a pack with only a pawn is still a pack.
The minimum is a front and a back #
Give the wizard a front and a back image of a unit and it fills the rest: the two missing facings are mirrored from the two you supplied, the standby pose is repeated across the others, and the king's captured cells use the brace pose. Nothing stops you drawing every facing and pose yourself; anything you apply by hand is kept.
Working in the wizard #
- Create a pack (or open an installed one).
- Import images with the file picker, or drop PNG / JPG files into the pack's
importfolder and RESCAN. Up to 4096 px a side. - Pick a class, pose and facing cell, then frame the image: drag it in the 3× preview (Shift snaps to an axis, the wheel scales), or type scale, stretch and offset. Choose sampling (nearest, box, smooth), the alpha cut, an optional colour reduction and an outline.
- Apply to cell. Repeat for the front and the back; then Fill missing cells.
- Set the colour (a picker with a square, a hue strip and HSV / RGB / hex fields) and the vehicle palette.
- Save / Install. The pack is now selectable in the game.
From the pack list you can preview every class front and back, rename, edit, export or delete a pack.
Sharing #
Export .cfarmy writes a single file you can send to anyone. On their side, Import pack (or dropping the file into Armies/_inbox) installs it. Packs live in the game's data folder under Armies/; the wizard shows the path.
Limits and notes #
- PC only: Windows, and the Linux and macOS builds when they exist. The file dialogs need a desktop; on a Steam Deck in Gaming Mode use the
importand_inboxfolder routes. - Sheets larger than 4096 px, files over 32 MB, or grids that are not square cells are rejected with a message naming the file.
- Custom artwork stays on your machine. There is no upload, gallery or account.
- A pack is a skin. Movement, weapons, ranges and rules are the game's and cannot be changed by a pack.
