The pieces
Six classes. Each moves exactly as its chess piece does and fights with a weapon of its own.
Pawn: shield infantry #
- Move: one rank forward into any of the three forward empty squares. Melee captures diagonally forward.
- Fire: diagonal. 1 square 100 %, 2 squares 40 %.
- Shield: the front shield blocks ordinary shots from ahead. Grenades, the Decree and drone strikes ignore it.
- Skill: Shield Slam. Push an adjacent unit one square. Mines trigger.
- Promotion: a pawn reaching the far rank promotes to queen, rook, bishop or knight.
Rook: long-range sniper #
- Move: any distance along ranks or files. Every unit blocks movement and ordinary fire.
- Fire: straight. 1–4 squares 40 %, 5+ squares 100 %.
- Skill: Piercing Shot. Fire through three orthogonal squares in a line; hits friend or foe. Empties the rifle.
Bishop: rail gun specialist #
- Move: any distance diagonally. Every unit blocks movement and ordinary fire.
- Fire: diagonal. 1–4 squares 100 %, 5+ squares 40 %.
- Skill: Drone Bombardment. Strike a visible enemy 5–7 diagonal squares away. Empties the unit.
Knight: grenadier #
- Move: two squares on one axis and one on the other. Jumps blockers.
- Fire: grenades at a knight offset. 100 %, ignores blockers and cover.
- Melee: hammer.
- Skill: Hidden Mine. Plant a hidden mine at an empty knight offset. Empties the unit.
Queen: infiltrator #
- Move: any distance straight or diagonal. Every unit blocks the lane.
- Fire: straight and diagonal, 100 %, but firing empties the SMG; reloading costs a turn.
- Melee: point-blank pistol.
- Skill: Infiltrator. Untargetable for the enemy's next turn, then skip a turn. Empties the rifle.
King: field commander #
- Move: one square in any direction. May castle on either wing when its path and safety requirements are met.
- Fire: adjacent, 100 %.
- Melee: point-blank pistol.
- Skill: Shotgun Decree. A four-square directional blast that goes through pawn shields. Empties the shotgun.
- Losing him ends the match; losing his last escort loses it too. See the CheckFire rule.
